The Cathedral of Christ the Savior is located near the Kremlin on the left bank of the Moscow River. The rich history of the temple consists in three periods: construction, destruction and re-creation. The existing structure, built in the 1990s, is an external copy of the temple of the same name, created in the 19th century, in gratitude to God for saving Russia from Napoleon’s invasion. With an overall height of 103 metres (338 ft), it is the tallest Orthodox Christian church in the world. Built in the tradition of the so-called Russian-Byzantine style.
